Los Vivancos – Born to Dance

They were born to be stars. The children of an equally stellar father, the founder of the school of dance, music and martial arts in Barcelona, Pedro Vivancos García. Pedro was once a good dancer himself, performed on the same stage with Antonio El Bailarin, and in the mid-80s led the Raschimura dance group, which was a symbiosis of dance, flamenco, music, martial arts and karate. Along with adults, children performed in the group: the loving Pedro Vivancos was married seven times, and his 39 children were an integral part of an unusual dance project.
The press of that time referred to the Vivancos group as nothing but a sect. It was rumored that his father raised his sons as ninjas, which, of course, was nothing more than speculation. "Father always took care of all of us. We were not a sect, we were an unusual but wonderful family that went beyond the canons that are considered acceptable in society," says Elias, the eldest of the brothers.

Pedro Vivancos traveled to Canada, where he opened the Quantico Independent School of Performing Arts. It was there that his sons gained knowledge and skills that they successfully demonstrate to viewers around the world. The school gained recognition in Canada and was in a privileged position, in particular because many sent their children to study performing arts with Pedro Vivancos.

The Los Vivancos group consists of seven brothers, the sons of four of Vivancos Sr.'s seven wives. The father gave the children biblical names – Elias, Judah, Joshua (Joseph), Christ, Israel, Aaron, and Josue – and taught them not only to dance flamenco, but also to demonstrate martial arts, acrobatic routines, and play musical instruments on stage. Elias plays the electronic cello, Judah plays the five–string cello, and Joshua plays the cajon (a kind of percussion used by flamenco performers). Christos's instrument is a saxophone, Israel's is a flute, Aaron chose a violin, and Josue chose keyboards.

Rumor has it that Los Vivancos owe their success not only to talent, but also to many famous and influential women who couldn't resist the handsome brothers. The philandering list of brothers includes actresses Ana Obregon, Miriam Sanchez, Arancia de Benito and Princess Stephanie of Monaco, although the Vivancos themselves prefer not to spread their victories outside the stage. But they enthusiastically talk about the vicissitudes of stage life.: how during a tour in Russia, in the 30-degree frost, the tour bus's engine wouldn't start and the band almost missed the plane, how the monitor fell on stage during the performance and the dancers had to put it back in place, turning this technical problem into part of the show.

The prestigious New Yorker Magazine called the band "the most actively touring modern flamenco band": Los Vivancos performed more than 900 shows in 200 cities around the world, attracting almost 2 million viewers. London, New York, Qatar, and Moscow are far from the full geography of the band's performances. Among the trophies received by the Vivankos brothers is the Guinness Prize for the fastest tap dancing in the world. The band performed on the same stage with Antonio Banderas, Mylene Farmer, the Dortmund and Budapest Symphony Orchestras, and starred in a Nespresso coffee commercial. At the invitation of Princess Stephanie of Monaco, Los Vivancos participated in the Monte Carlo Circus Festival and also took part in the closing ceremony of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi.

"Revolutionary, innovative, unique, unusual" – such definitions were given by critics to the work of the dance group. The Vivankos brothers themselves say that their art is more than just a job, it is a way of life.
