"Ballet Flamenco of Catalonia"

with the " Carmen" program

Flamenco Ballet Catalunya (BFC) addresses the ever-relevant myth of Carmen in its new project. This is a new recreation of the work of J.Bizet brings new flamenco elements that were previously unknown. It goes beyond the traditional concept in which it was historically classified and adapts it to the reality of today's modern society. The values that make Carmen a woman of our time today, and the adaptation of flamenco music and ballet, place the work in a new paradigm of universal myth and flamenco of the 21st century.
Despite the passage of time, Carmen retains her message of freedom and courage in the face of an unequal world where women are still fighting for their rights. Carmen is the prototype of a woman who is faced with a hostile and cruel male world, from which she does not survive, but leaves her example to posterity.
Carmen is pain, passion and a cry for freedom, feelings that flamenco art masterfully represents in its wildest and most primitive aspect. BFC tells the story written by Prosper Merime, delving into the love affair between gypsy Carmen and bullfighter Escamillo. And here the flamenco language is the best means of artistic expression of emotions and an ideal common thread for conveying the passion of the main characters.
The show combines the most modern flamenco singing with original music. Bizet's opera singing and music combine the most traditional sounds with innovative notes of jazz and flamenco singing. The choreography combines the universes of flamenco ballet with striking tap dancing and the fresh air of modern dance.
